The Ten Provocative Evolutions in Human Capability
In today's special episode of the HR Leaders LIVE podcast, I'm joined by my good friend Dave Ulrich, to discuss the ten provocative evolutions in human capability.
Dave Ulrich's groundbreaking model of human capability has four main pathways. One, talent deals with individual competence, people, workforce, and employees. Two, leadership focuses on individual leaders at all levels as well as leadership capability throughout an organisation. Three, organisation refers to organisation capability, culture, workplace, teams, and systems. Four, human resources (HR) defines the characteristics of the HR department, practice, and people.
This framework itself is an evolution of “HR” thinking, which has historically focused on talent (or human capital) as the HR agenda. Dave Ulrich's work outlines the ten provocative evolutions in this framework, and highlights that, ultimately, organisation has far more impact on results than talent, meaning that HR can be the architect of creating organisation capabilities.
David Ulrich is a university professor, author, speaker, management coach, and management consultant. Ulrich is a professor of business at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and co-founder of The RBL Group. With his colleagues, he has written over 30 books that have shaped the HR profession, defined organisations as capabilities, and shown the impact of leadership on customers and investors.
